Canadian Vessel Information System
These lists are a synopsis of Canadian registered vessels in operation in Canadian waters by type and area of service. Information contained in the lists is compiled from the Canadian Transportation Agency's marine database which the Agency uses to carry out its mandate pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act.
Under the Coasting Trade Act, the Agency has to determine whether or not there is a suitable Canadian ship available to provide a service or perform an activity described in a coasting trade licence application. Also, when the proposed activity involves the carriage of passengers, it must determine if there is an adequate marine service offered by an operator using Canadian vessels. These lists are a useful reference tool for the marine industry as well as government departments and agencies.
The Agency strives to have up-to-date information, however, it is the responsibility of Canadian vessel operators to advise the Agency of changes to their fleet. Therefore, neither the Agency nor any of its employees shall be liable for any inaccuracy or omission in the Canadian Vessel Information System.
